Thesis

• B.Sc. Thesis: Effect of Bicarbonate on Arsenic Removal by Coagulation and Adsorption
Thesis Supervisor: Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Ali, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, BUET
Purpose and Objective: This study focused on assessing the effect of bicarbonate ions on arsenic removal by Alum coagulation, Ferric Chloride coagulation, and Adsorption on Mn-green sand by performing batch experiments. This research focused on identification of processes, factors and their roles in As removal in the batch experiments.

• M.Sc. Thesis: Remediation of Rainfall Induced Landslide in Hills of Bangladesh Using Vegetation and Nailing
Thesis Supervisor: Dr. Mohammad Shariful Islam, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, BUET
Purpose and Objective: This study looked at the risk of landslides in Chattogram Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. The main objective was to see the effectiveness of vetiver grass in reducing topsoil erosion and imparting slope stability by model study and finite element analysis. A comparative analysis between nailing, as a conventional measure, and with vegetation, as a sustainable measure for slope stability has also been performed numerically.
