Participation in Debate related to Safety in RMG Sector of Bangladesh

A debate under the course Applied Accident and Hazard Analysis of session September, 2018 was held on 21 December, 2018 (Friday) from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The topic of the debate was "Influence of Accord and Alliance in the RMG sector of Bangladesh has been positive". Two groups were formed by lottery where one group spoke for the motion and another spoke against the motion. Prof. Dr. Mehedi Ahmed Ansary conducted the debate session.

Visit to RMG Factory

As part of the course work, an academic visit to RMG factory was arranged on 22 December, 2018 (Saturday) from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. Students visited an RMG factory of Mirpur area to understand the status of the factory from safety point of view. The purpose of this visit was to identify risks along with remediation and recommendations from practical ground. Potential hazards related to general safety, fire, chemical and electrical safety were identified by the students and presented in posters. The visit was led by Dr. Erik Wiersma, Research Fellow, BUET-JIDPUS.

Poster Presentation and Group Discussion in the Workshop on 'Prospects of Education Programme on Safety Management in Bangladesh'

A workshop on 'Prospects of Education Programme on Safety Management in Bangladesh' was held on 19 January, 2019 at BUET-JIDPUS. Representatives from Bangladesh Army, DIFE, Runner Automobiles, Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA), Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturer and Exporter Association (BPGMEA), Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) were present in the workshop. Students of Safety Management Course presented their posters with focus on perspectives of safety management in the RMG sector of Bangladesh. Finally, three groups were formed for group discussion on three types of probable courses on safety management- Master's Programme, Short Course/Long Course and Post Graduate Diploma (PGD). Each of the groups discussed on merits, demerits, modality, outcome, eligibility of the candidates and sources of support for the respective courses. After the discussion, each group presented the summary in the presence of other participants and resource persons.
