Ongoing Collaborations

MoU Between Department of Mathematics and Geosciences, University of Trieste and BUET-JIDPUS

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between BUET-JIDPUS and Department of Mathematics and Geosciences, University of Trieste, Italy on November 2014. The historical international vocation of the University of Trieste is witnessed by its intense and high-level activity: Trieste is the centre of many research facilities, with which the University is connected. Under this MoU both parties agree on setting up long-term cooperation aimed at earthquake and tsunami hazard assessment, based on the development and application of advanced geophysical and seismological methods for neo-deterministic zonation, with special emphasis to their application to Bangladesh. Also to foster further cooperation in the field of seismic source generation and propagation processes, with special emphasis on the properties of seismic energy release, seismic sources and stress pattern in Bangladesh and surrounding regions. This MoU will remain valid for five years initially and may be continued thereafter after suitable review and agreement.

Grant Agreement between ICIMOD and BUET-JIDPUS

A Grant Agreement has been signed between International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and BUET-Japan Institute of Disaster Prevention and Urban Safety for SERVIR- Himalaya Grants Programme on July 2014. ICIMOD is a regional research and development agency; founded by the eight Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan; has been working towards sustainable mountain development in the HKH region. Whereas the SERVIR programme is a unique science, technology and development programme established through joint partnership between United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), in collaboration with regional institutions in East Africa, the Himalayas (at ICIMOD) and Mesoamerica. BUET-JIDPUS has submitted a proposal for participation in the SERVIR-Himalaya Small Grants Programme, ICIMOD that was met with successful evaluation.

Under this Grant Agreement the research project titled “Developing Dynamic Web-GIS based Early Warning System for the Communities at Landslide Risks in Chittagong Metropolitan Area, Bangladesh” will be implemented. The agreement will be valid from July 2014 to May 2015.
