A workshop on “Curriculum Development for Post-Graduate Degree and Diploma Program in Disaster Engineering/Disaster Technology” was held on May 13, 2017, at BUET-Japan Institute of Disaster Prevention & Urban Safety (BUET-JIDPUS). This workshop was conducted as an activity under HEQEP project CP No. 3140 titled “Development of Post‐Graduate Research and Degree Programs in Disaster Risk Reduction at New Institute on Disaster Prevention and Urban Safety” of University Grants Commission Government of Bangladesh.
The workshop was attended by faculty members fromCUET, RUET, DUET, IUT, MIST, AUST, UAP and various departments of BUET, as well as representatives from Geological Survey of Bangladesh (GSB) and Department of Disaster Management (DDM).
Prof. Tahmeed M. Al‐Hussaini presented the concept paper.He spoke on different post-graduate degree programs at various local and foreign academic institutions. He finally presented a proposal for post-graduate degree and diploma programs related to Disaster Risk Reduction at BUET-JIDPUS with a focus on the application of engineering and technology. The workshop was also addressed by Prof. Raquib Ahsan (Director, BUET-JIDPUS), Prof. Md. Tarek Uddin (CE, IUT), Dr. Maruful Hasan Mazumder (DEE, CUET), Prof. Md. Kamruzzaman (URP, RUET), Prof. Mohammad ShakilAkther (URP, BUET), Prof. Jahid Hasan (CE, MIST), Prof. Md. Rezaul Karim (CE, DUET), Dr. NehreenMajed (CE, UAP), Dr. Nayma Khan (Architecture, BUET), Md. Azahar Hossain (Geology, GSB) and NetaiDeySarker (GIS, DDM).
Possible courses for the proposed graduate degree program were finalized. It was agreed that a detailed proposal based on recommendations of the workshop will be formulated at an early date by the project team and distributed among all participants.
