Seminar on “Experimental and Field Assessment Studies on Disaster Risk”

A seminar on “Experimental and Field Assessment Studies on Disaster Risk” was held on 2nd May  2016 at BUET-JIDPUS, organized by BUET-JIDPUS. This seminar was conducted as an activity under HEQEP project CP No. 3140 titled “Development of PostGraduate Research and Degree Programs in Disaster Risk Reduction at New Institute on Disaster Prevention and Urban Safety” of University Grants Commission Government of Bangladesh.

The Chief Guest of the seminar was Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice‐Chancellor, University of Asia Pacific and the Special Guest was Prof. Dr. A.M.M. Safiullah, Vice‐Chancellor, Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology. Amod Gujral, Managing Director Encardio-rite Electronic Pvt. Ltd., Lucknow, India was one of the presenters of the seminar who presented on “Instrumentation for online webbased monitoring for safety of structures and landslide areas“. Dr. Tahmeed M-Al‐Hussaini, Director, BUET‐JIDPUS and Professor, Dept. of Civil Engineering, BUET gave a brief description on Disaster related Research Activities at BUET‐JIDPUS. Dr. Mohammad Shariful Islam, Professor, Dept. of Civil Engineering, BUET who introduced a new idea for slope protection (Bangladesh Perspective).

The training program ended with an interactive discussion session where the attendees of the seminar communicated with the presenters, chief guest and special guest asking questions regarding the technologies and disaster risk reduction methods currently being implemented and the future of such technologies. Prof. Dr. A.M.M. Safiullah appreciated the new idea of slope protection. Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury appreciated the collaboration with different university & organization and hoped to increase it with different government and non-government organization and institutions.
